I think that my magazine does meet many convention of music magazines firstly it does the on the front cover with the page layout being very typically of any magazine that you will find in your local news agents it contains the key elements of a selling line, masthead, plug, cover line, main headline, kicker, bar code and photo.
I have a very clear house style trying to stick with three main colours blue, yellow, and red and then black and white are also prominent. However i think that the house style is not as prominent in my double page spread. This is because i wanted to step away a little from magazine conventions i wanted to make the page a little more exciting and different. Giving the page a more original twist i think makes the magazine more exciting and would attract the audience’s attention.
I tried to use very clear font that were easy to read.
I defiantly think I’ve paid attention to the grid system but more so in my front cover and contents page. My headings on both take up a substantial amount of room.
As you can see from my readership profile i have looked in to ideology and target audiences, how to identify them and concentrate the magazine around design and articles that would appeal to them. For example the artists on the front covers confidence and charismatic, relaxed yet edgy appearance would really appeal to the aspire as they are so concerned with image. I think my the content of my double page spread to the more The explorer side of my readers due to their lust for new and slightly original music.
I think a publishing company such as IPC media would consider publishing my magazine as they publish NME which i took a great deal of my inspiration and direction from. When studying other music magazines i noticed that unless the genre of music the magazine looked at was pop many of the colours used were neutral or aimed at males. This made me think carefully about my choice colours i wanted bright eye catching once that would appeal to boys as well as girls which is why i choose a bright blue, yellow and red.
Over the process of researching and producing my magazine i have learnt a great deal often through a trial and error process however. For example before this project i had never used Photoshop, i found it extremely challenging but am now able to do such skill as crop images, change text, morph photos. I can defiantly see the benefit of this technology in the media industry magazines would be much quicker to produce mistakes easily changes and pages constructed with ease. I think my improvement over the whole project from my college magazine task is extremely clear.
